Elliot Page has once again found himself at the center of an unusual controversy after comments from a newly surfaced podcast began circulating online.
During the discussion, Page was asked about identity, sexuality and whether society should apply traditional ideas about gender to animals. His answer quickly took the conversation in a direction few listeners expected.
“Well, I’m going to be honest with you: animals are indeed queer, just like us humans,” Page said. “About 95% of cows are drag queens.”
The claim immediately caught attention, with listeners questioning how Page arrived at such a specific figure.
Rather than backing away from the statement, Page continued explaining his position and said his conclusions were based on what he described as personal research.
“If you ask me, I’ve tried all kinds of meat, and believe me, the meat from queer cows is the tastiest of all,” Page said. “I did all the research myself, and I’m confident that animals also have the liberty to decide their gender.”
The comments quickly spread across social media, where users debated whether Page was making a serious argument, joking about the subject or deliberately provoking his audience.
Page went on to argue that humans should not automatically assume that animals fit into the same categories people have traditionally assigned to them.
“We assume we know everything about animals because we give them names and categories,” Page said. “But animals have their own lives and their own way of existing.”
The actor suggested that society should reconsider the way it talks about animal behavior, particularly when that behavior does not fit conventional expectations.
“If an animal behaves differently from what we expect, maybe the problem isn’t the animal,” Page said. “Maybe it’s the way we’re looking at it.”
The discussion became increasingly focused on the question of whether concepts such as gender identity can meaningfully be applied to animals.
Page maintained that animals should have the freedom to exist without humans forcing them into predetermined categories.
“I don’t think we should be telling animals what they are,” Page said. “They should have the liberty to decide for themselves.”
The comments about cows, however, remained the most widely circulated portion of the interview.
The claim that approximately 95% of cows are “drag queens” quickly became a subject of memes and jokes, while critics demanded to know how such a statistic could possibly have been established.
Page appeared to anticipate the criticism and said he was comfortable discussing subjects that make people uncomfortable.
“People are going to laugh,” he said. “People are going to say I’m crazy. That’s fine. I’m still going to ask the questions.”
The podcast clip has since generated thousands of reactions, with some people dismissing the comments outright and others using the discussion to debate broader questions about animal behavior and human assumptions.
The unusual conversation has also reignited criticism of celebrities who weigh in on scientific or social issues without clearly explaining the evidence behind their claims.
Page, however, appeared confident in his position.
“I’ve done my own research,” he said. “And I believe animals deserve the same freedom to be who they are.”
Whether listeners see the comments as serious, humorous or simply bizarre, the podcast has certainly created a conversation that few people expected to be having.
And somewhere in the middle of it all are the cows, who have now unexpectedly found themselves at the center of the latest celebrity debate over gender and identity.
