George Strait has allegedly taken aim at Jelly Roll over his recent controversial remarks, questioning the singer’s country credentials and accusing him of abandoning the fans who helped turn him into a major star.
During a recent podcast appearance, Strait reportedly spoke about Jelly Roll’s transition from rap into country music and said he never understood how the singer suddenly became one of the genre’s biggest names.
“I never liked that guy, to be honest,” Strait allegedly said. “I always wondered why he would suddenly decide to become a country singer after coming from rap. Now that I’ve heard his recent woke remarks, it all makes sense to me.”
Strait reportedly argued that Jelly Roll’s move into country music was motivated primarily by money and commercial success.
“He wasn’t a real country artist, and I don’t think he ever will be one,” Strait said. “He saw an opportunity, moved into country music and found a huge audience. To me, it looked like a business decision from the beginning.”

“Being true to yourself is what country music is all about,” he said. “But Jelly realized that whatever helped him sell the most records was probably the most profitable path. That’s how he ended up here.”

“Then he woke up and started talking politics, and suddenly everyone was supposed to accept that this was just part of country music,” Strait allegedly said. “That’s where I think he lost a lot of people.”
