The Grand Ole Opry has reportedly permanently blacklisted Jelly Roll following his recent controversial jokes and political remarks, marking another major setback for the singer amid growing criticism from some country music fans.
According to a statement from Alex Bruno, an executive director at the Grand Ole Opry, the organization reviewed Jelly Roll’s recent actions before deciding that he would no longer be welcome at the iconic country music venue.
“Jelly Roll has made his choice, and now he has to face the consequences of what he did,” Bruno said. “We’ve decided he is no longer welcome at the Grand Ole Opry. He became woke, crossed the line, and no longer represents the values we stand for here.”
Bruno also made it clear that the organization believes its decision reflects the wishes of its audience.
“We are with our fans,” Bruno said.
The reported blacklist comes after Jelly Roll became the subject of intense discussion following his recent appearance as guest host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! During his time on the show, the singer made jokes about President Donald Trump, prompting a strong reaction from some conservative and country music listeners.
