In a recent interview on The View, Jon Voight, the Academy Award-winning actor known for his conservative views, lost his cool with co-host Whoopi Goldberg.
The heated exchange began when Goldberg challenged Voight on his support for former President Donald Trump, citing his controversial policies and statements.
Voight, who has been a vocal supporter of Trump, was quick to defend himself.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” Voight said, raising his voice. “Trump was the best thing that ever happened to this country, and you and your liberal friends just can’t handle that.”
Goldberg, visibly taken aback by Voight’s aggressive tone, tried to interject. But Voight wasn’t having it.
“Get the f**k out if you don’t like it here,” he said, pointing at Goldberg. “I’m sick of people like you trying to silence me and others who have a different opinion.”
The outburst left the other hosts and audience members stunned. Some were quick to condemn Voight’s behavior, while others defended his right to express his opinion.
But for Goldberg, the incident was a reminder of the toxic nature of political discourse in the United States.
“We need to be able to have respectful conversations with people who hold different beliefs,” she said in a statement after the show. “Name-calling and shouting won’t get us anywhere.”
Voight, for his part, has yet to apologize for his outburst. In a tweet following the interview, he doubled down on his support for Trump and suggested that Goldberg and other liberals were the ones in the wrong.
“I won’t be silenced by the likes of Whoopi Goldberg,” he wrote. “I stand by my beliefs and will continue to fight for what I believe in.”
It remains to be seen how the incident will impact Voight’s career and public image, but one thing is clear: the divide between left and right in America shows no signs of abating.
