Jelly Roll has reportedly been dropped from an upcoming Blue Lives Matter fundraiser, with Kid Rock stepping in as his replacement after the controversy surrounding Jelly Roll’s recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Jelly Roll had originally been booked to perform at the event, but organizers allegedly reconsidered the decision after the singer made jokes about President Donald Trump during his guest-hosting stint.
The change comes as Jelly Roll continues to face criticism from some country music fans over his increasingly outspoken political views. His comments have created a growing divide among listeners, with some supporters defending him while others believe he has gone too far.
Alex Bruno, the event manager, said organizers initially believed Jelly Roll would be a strong addition to the fundraiser.
“We invited Jelly Roll because we thought he was going to be the right fit, but after his Kimmel appearance, we realized that we made a huge mistake,” Bruno said.
Bruno said the organizers wanted an artist who understood the audience and the purpose behind the event.
“Contrary to Jelly, Kid Rock understands the audience and what this event stands for,” Bruno said. “We believe he’s the perfect fit for this.”
Kid Rock is now expected to take Jelly Roll’s spot at the fundraiser. The decision reportedly came after organizers reviewed the reaction to Jelly Roll’s comments and concluded that keeping him on the lineup could distract from the event itself.
According to Bruno, Kid Rock was a natural replacement because of his long-standing connection with conservative audiences and his willingness to openly support law enforcement.
“This is an event where the audience wants to feel represented,” Bruno said. “Kid Rock understands that. He knows what these people believe in, and he isn’t going to walk onto the stage wondering whether he should apologize for being there.”
Jelly Roll’s recent controversy began after he made several jokes about Trump during his week as guest host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! He later explained that he considers himself politically somewhere around the middle, despite having some views that lean left.
That explanation has not stopped the criticism.
Some fans have accused Jelly Roll of abandoning the country audience that helped turn him into a major star, while others have defended his right to speak openly about his political beliefs.
For the fundraiser organizers, however, the issue reportedly came down to finding the right performer for the audience.
“We had to make a decision based on what was best for the event,” Bruno said. “Mr. Jelly made his choice, and we made ours.”
With Kid Rock now reportedly taking the stage, organizers appear ready to move past the controversy and focus on the fundraiser.
For Jelly Roll, however, the cancellation adds another unwanted headline to a growing list of controversies surrounding his recent political remarks.
The singer has not publicly commented on the reported decision to replace him.
